Lexico In Detail
1.      Simple Present Tense :
Pattern :
a) (+) S + Be (is, am, are) + Object
S + Verb1 + object
Example : - I am lazy.
- You bring my book.
b) (-) S + do/does + not + verb1 + Object
S + be + not + Object

- You do not bring my book.
c) (?) Be + S + Object +?
Do/does + S + Verb 1 + object +?
Example : - Am I lazy?
- Do you bring my book?
We use the simple present tense when:
(1)   The action is general.
(2)   The action happens all the time, or habitually, in the past, presentand future.
(3)   The action is not only happening now.
There are three important exceptions :
(1)   For positive sentences, we do not normally use the auxiliary.
(2)   For the 3rd person singular (he, she, it), we add s to the main verbor es
to the auxiliary.
(3)   For the verb to be, we do not use an auxiliary, even for questionsand negatives.the statement is always true.

2.      Action Verbs
In Picture 1, a boy is playing with a ball, while in Picture 2,a girl is eating an ice cream. The words playing and eating tell us what the boy and girl are doing. Words that tell whatpeople or things do are called Action Verbs.
Examples : - The ship sailed an hour ago.
- The swimmer dived into the water.

3.      Passive Voicea)
a)      Use of Passive
Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It isnot important or not known, however, who or what isperforming the action.
Example : My bike was stolen. In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it. Some times a statement in passive is more polite than active voice, asthe following example shows:
Example : A mistake was made.In this case, I focus on the fact that a mistake was made, but I do not blame anyone (e.g. You have made a mistake).
b)      Form of Passive
Pattern :
Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle (3rd column of irregular verbs)
Example : A letter was written.
When rewriting active sentences in passive voice, note the following:
(1)   The object of the active sentence becomes the subjectof the passive sentence.
(2)   The finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle).
(3)   The subject of the active sentence becomes the objectof the passive sentence (or is dropped).
c)      Example of Passive
Active : Rita is writing a letter.
Passive : A letter is being written by Rita.

5.      Adverbial Phrase
